GROWTH ALLOWANCE BEGINS JANUARY 14, 2018

In accordance with the Idaho High School Activities Association rules for wrestling, "A two pound growth allowance will be added to each weight class on the second Sunday in January. A wrestler may not use the two pound growth allowance to make scratch weight."

This means that for wrestlers with three scratch weigh ins, the weight class is effectively two pounds heavier. So a 145-pound will make weight at 147 pounds.

COMPETITION SCHEDULE

Vallivue vs. Caldwell

On Wednesday, December 13, 2017, Vallivue High School wrestles Caldwell High School at the Vallivue Main Gym. The Caldwell Cougars have been the 4A Wrestling state champions for two out of the past three years. This will be a good test for VHS.

Wiley Dobbs Wrestling Tournament

The Vallivue High School Wrestling team will travel to the Wiley Dobbs Wrestling Tournament in Twin Falls, Idaho on December 15 and 16, 2017.

The team will be staying at the Best Western Plus 1377 Blue Lakes Boulevard North, Twin Falls, Idaho 83301 (208) 736-8000.

The varsity team will wrestle at Canyon Ridge High School. Weigh-ins will be at 1:30 p.m.

The JV team will wrestling at Twin Falls High School. Weigh-ins will be at 1:00 p.m.

LONGER PRACTICES

Practices from December 4 through December 21, 2017 will be 15 minutes longer running from 3:55 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

Capital JV Tournament | Saturday, December 9, 2017

Weigh ins for this tournament are scratch weight at home on Friday evening.

VARSITY Buck's Bags Dual Tournament

On December 1 and 2, 2017, the Vallivue High School Varsity wrestling team will travel to Capital High School, 8055 Goddard Road, Boise, ID, 83704, for the Buck's Dual Tournament. There will be a two-pound weight allowance.

Parents, please come and watch your varsity wrestler.

JV Help with Middle School Districts

The Vallivue High School Junior Varsity team will be helping with the Middle School District Tournament at Sage Valley Middle School, 18070 Santa Ana Avenue, Nampa, ID 83687, on Friday and Saturday, December 1 and 2, 2017.

These count as practices and must be attended. Coach Will Hererra will provide a schedule.

Bulk Headgear Order

All wrestlers will need to purchase headgear and shoes. You are welcome to get shoes and headgear online or at a local store, but we will also place a bulk order on November 28, 2017. If you would like to be part of this order, please complete this form.

NOVEMBER 25, 2017, 4:00 PM AT VALLIVUE HIGH

The Brown and Gold Dual is the VHS Wrestling Team’s initial wrestle off. During this event, we will determine the varsity lineup for our first few duals and several important tournaments.

This event is a fundraiser for our team, so we hope you will participate. SIC District Three admission prices apply.

Please invite your friends and family to attend.

ALL YOU CAN EAT HOT DOG BAR

Following the Brown & Gold Dual, we will have an all-you-can-eat Hot Dog Bar. This includes a canned beverage, a bag of chips, and all of the hot dogs and toppings you can eat.

$10 for Adults and High School Students and $7 for Seniors, Middle School Age Kids, and Younger.

PARENT MEETINGS

Wrestler and parent meetings are on November 15 and 16, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. in room 501. This meeting will last 30 minutes.

Each wrestler should bring a parent or guardian on the 15th or 16th to this meeting.

We will be selling raffle tickets this Saturday. Time and locations will be announced at the parent meetings.

As you know, we are selling raffle tickets to earn our 2017-18 singlets and gear. Please complete the form linked below as soon as possible.

GEAR SIZE AND PERSONALIZATION FORM

This season we are asking each wrestler to sell 20 raffle tickets in order to receive a personalized wrestling singlet, sublimated shorts, and a t-shirt.

This is different from what we've done in the past, and we're making this change for two reasons.

First, almost every season wrestlers ask if they can purchase singlets or have the opportunity to get more gear. So this year, we wanted to create an easy way for everyone on the team to have gear that belongs to them. For this to work, and for us to sill look like a team, we need every wrestler to participate.

Second, we will use this as a fundraiser. The raffle tickets not only cover the cost of the gear, but also provide some funds for equipment, tournament entry fees, and travel.

If a wrestler sells more than 20 raffle tickets there is an opportunity to get additional gear.

The singlet will be personalized with the wrestlers last name. So where you see "ROGGIO" as in Coach Roggio, you will have your family name.

OPEN MAT CHANGED TODAY

Today, October 24, 2017, rather than holding our open mat workout at Vallivue High School, we will attend the Vallivue Middle School (VMS) Brown and Gold Dual at 6:00 pm.

This is the VMS wrestling team's official wrestle off. Please go to VMS at 6:00 pm. You will be able to purchase a spaghetti dinner.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We still need a few more VHS wrestlers to volunteer to help serve spaghetti and clean up. If you are helping, you eat for free.

OPEN MAT WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY

We will have our regularly scheduled open mat workouts on Wednesday and Thursday this week from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.

For Fall Youth Wrestling please use the exterior back door to enter the VHS Wrestling Room.

Similiarly, VHS wrestlings, please try to use the exterior door when there are events in the main gym.

We will offer three order dates. Please turn in raffle ticket stubs and payments by an order date.

• November 20, 2017 | Last Chance order, should arrive in January.

Every wrestler must read the handbook, have a parent read it, sign it, and have a parent sign it.

The 2017 Vallivue Fall Youth Folkstyle Wrestling League is an opportunity for wrestlers from age five through sixth grade to compete in folkstyle (school style) wrestling, first in a Vallivue league (September and October) and then in USA Wrestling (the Olympic governing body) sanctioned events (November and December).

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

• For boys and girls age five (5) through sixth grade.

Two Parts to the Season

The Vallivue Fall Youth Folkstyle Wrestling League is divided into two parts - a Vallivue league (September and October) and USA Wrestling Events (November and December).

League Teams

For the first two months of the league, wrestlers will be divided into teams, practicing at different locations, including at Sergeant’s Fitness, which is participating in the league.

For the second two months of the season, we will be collectively competing in USA Wrestling sanctioned events, but still practicing in smaller groups.

Tuition

Wrestlers will pay $40 per month for September, October, and November, and $20 for December. You may join the league at any time.

Tuition includes a limited USA Wrestling membership.

Wrestlers training at Sergeant’s Fitness will pay Sergeant’s directly. The league includes two practices each week. Those practicing at Sergeant's have the opportunity to add two additional kid CrossFit strength/conditioning sessions a week for an additional $20, if they choose.

Fundraising

There will be an opportunity to sell raffle tickets in lieu of paying tuition. You can fundraise to pay your full tuition.

OREGON STATE WRESTLING CAMPS | JULY 9-14, 2017

We have the opportunity to attend two Oregon State Wrestling Camps.  Specifically, we will be at the Tilts, Turns & Pins Camp and the Takedown Extreme Camp. There are two documents that you must complete.

• 2017 Oregon State University Wrestling Camp Forms. 
• VHS Travel Permission Form. (Location is Oregon State. Adult is Melisa Roggio)

PACK THESE ITEMS FOR YOUR TRIP TO CAMP

This is a list of the items you should pack for your trip to the Oregon State University Wrestling Camps.

• Toiletries - Like your toothbrush, comb, anything you need for a shower.
• Towels - You may want more than one.
• Linens - to make your bed.
• A pillow.
• Wrestling shoes.
• Running shoes.
• Plenty of workout gear.
• Money for snacks.
